Mainstreaming

Mainstreaming is an approach that makes the consideration of certain aspects in policies and programmes a rule and a self- evident requirement instead of an after- thought.

The human rights of certain groups of persons (including their situation, perspectives, specific risks, etc.) can be the subject of mainstreaming. We talk about disability mainstreaming, gender mainstreaming etc. But also other aspects such as climate change, environmental protection, HIV/AIDS, disaster risk reduction etc. can be mainstreamed.
